2011 Premier League Preview

At the start of the new Premier League season, all clubs are level, but if anyone outside of Manchester United, Chelsea or Arsenal wins it would be a surprise as most of the early football betting is on the big three. In the 19 years since the Premier league began just four teams have lifted the trophy and one of those, Blackburn Rovers, only won it once.

Much focus will be on Chelsea and what new manager Andre Villas-Boas is able to do with them. Many are waiting to see before placing their football bets as, by their usual standards, they’ve been relatively quiet in the transfer market. The new Chelsea would be Manchester City who signed Gael Clichy, Stefan Savic , Costel Pantilimon and, of course, Sergio Aguero – the 38 million pound man from Atletico Madrid. Speaking of Manchester, United will be looking for their 13th Premier League title. They lost Paul Scholes and Edwin Van der Sar but they were able to sign Ashley Young, David De Gea and Phil Jones.

Liverpool will be confident with Kenny Dalglish in charge and he was the last manager to steer them to the title. They have been very active in the transfer market and have made some great signings. Stuart Downing, Jordan Henderson, Doni and Charlie Adam will complement the likes of Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll.

Then of the other teams you have the likes of Tottenham, Everton and Sunderland . They will do well but will need to be consistent if they are to stay within touching distance of those expected to be above them.

Of great interest is how the three promoted sides fare. QPR are back in the Premier League after a 15 year absence. Norwich are also back up after a six year absence. Then you have Swansea City who won the playoff at the expense of Reading and will be the first Welsh side in the Premier League. Obviously this will be an exciting development and is great for Welsh football.
