General Information

With two European Championship quarter-finals already under their belt, Croatia will hope to go one step further in the summer of 2012 and continue their swift revival under highly respected manager Slaven Bilic.

After their last eight showing in Austria/Switzerland, failure to qualify for the 2010 World Cup definitely represented a major lapse for a nation still experiencing transition, however Bilic soon managed to turn things around and Croatia finished a solid second to Greece in qualifying for Ukraine/Poland before comfortably easing past Turkey in a crucial play-off.

Defeats to Greece and lowly Georgia in qualifying mean Croatia will hardly stack up as obvious champions in most people’s minds. That, coupled with a deadly group draw which sees them take on Spain, Italy and the Republic of Ireland, suggests Bilic’s men will be largely unfancied. But Croatia have enjoyed success over the Italians in the past and could be ready to pounce for second place should the Azzurri underperform.

Key Player: Ivan Rakitic

Croatia possess some decent talent up front but their displays will depend heavily on the effectiveness of Sevilla’s midfield orchestrator Ivan Rakitic. The 24-year-old has really caught the eye in La Liga and can use his experience on the top domestic stage to potentially propel his side through to the last eight.

TitanBet Prediction

3rd in Group C - The Croat’s definitely look capable of beating the Republic of Ireland and snatching a draw against Italy, but they may be edged out by the Azzurri who are fancied to cancel out the Spanish in the first round of group games.

Croatia were once marked as high as third in the FIFA World Rankings following their semi-final showing at the 1998 World Cup which saw them beat Germany en route to a narrow last four loss to France.
