  • Manager: Giovanni Trapattoni
  • Best Finish: Group Phase 1988
  • No of Appearances: 1

General Information

The Republic of Ireland hold a massive reputation of the continent and world stage for their courageous performances and lively fan base.

The current squad, managed by experienced Italian Giovanni Trapattoni, will be looking to write a new chapter into Irish football folklore in what will be the country’s second appearance at the finals.

With Spain, Italy and Croatia to contend with in the group phase, progression to the last eight appears unlikely however The Boys in Green have caused some shocks in the past, including when beating England in the 1988 renewal.

Progression via a rather soft play-off tie against Estonia leaves Ireland with many questions to answer but they certainly have the opportunity to do so with such stiff opposition coming their way.

Chances

Neutrals would undoubtedly love to see the Republic of Ireland spring a surprise but this looks nigh on impossible with both Spain and Italy to contend with in the group phase.

A win over Croatia in the first game will certainly be required if Ireland are to harbour hopes of progressing to the quarter-finals but the odds are stacked against them judging by the quality of the teams on paper.

Key Player: Robbie Keane

The Republic’s top goalscorer of all-time, Keane’s displays have always been crucial towards his country’s success and the former Spurs hitman will have to deliver the goods once again if Ireland are to make any progress in Ukraine/Poland.

TitanBet Prediction

4th in Group Stage - The pressure will be on from the off to beat Croatia but the Republic may even find Slaven Bilic’s men too good ahead of champagne ties with Italy and current holders Spain.
