  • Sweden - Euro 2012Sweden
  • Manager: Erik Hamren
  • Best Finish: Semi-Finals 1992
  • No of Appearances: 4

General Information

Sweden are not renowned for possessing too many superstars however they have a high reputation for being a strong, tough physical outfit that can beat most sides on their day.

Despite losing to Hungary in qualifying, Sweden were largely impressive en route to the finals and will feel they have a squeak against the more fancied nations.

Coach Erik Hamren will be in charge at a major tournament for the first time and progression through to the quarter-finals will be his ultimate goal.

Hamren will be relying on experienced players such as Olof Mellberg and Anders Svensson to help steer the ‘Blue-Yellow’ through the group phase.

Chances

Many have overlooked Group D in favour of the Germany/Holland/Portugal/Denmark quartet which has shaped up as the pool of death.

But a combination of Sweden alongside 2000 champions France, co-hosts Ukraine and old rivals England represents a really tough section of the opening phase.

Sweden succumbed to England for the first time since 1966 at Wembley last year and the Three Lions may now find the shackles loose against their ‘bogey’ opponents.

For that reason, Sweden are likely to require points against the other two nations to progress.

Key Player: Zlatan Ibrahimovic

The AC Milan target man certainly has his critics but is a quality player on his day that can be a nightmare for even the stoutest defences. Sweden will need goals from the big man and a bit of magic if they are to reach the quarters.

TitanBet Prediction

4th in Group Stage - Sweden should make their presence felt at some point but Group D is arguably the tightest and it is France and England who are just tipped to edge through to the last eight.
